Alfa Romeo introduces a new electric-hybrid SUV featuring NFT and blockchain technology.

Alfa Romeo Automobiles, short for “Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili,” is a subsidiary of Stellantis and is an Italian luxury automobile manufacturer. The Milan-based firm unveiled its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), marking it a first from Italy’s side.

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale is a compact crossover vehicle. It is set to launch in 2023 in the United States and is expected to generate enormous profits for the company.

NFTs, which have recently gained prominence in digital art, will be featured in Alfa Romeo’s new Tonale SUV as announced by the firm on Tuesday at the vehicle’s debut.

    Alfa Romeo Tonale specifications:

The Tonale boasts of the trademark Alfa Romeo shield grille at the front. The car measures 4529 X 1839X1600 mm in length, width, and height.

The car is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automated transmission. It comes attached with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with All-Wheel Drive that’s paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

It has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 15.5 kilowatt-hours, allowing it to travel up to 50 km on electric power alone. It takes about two hours to charge to the total capacity.

Adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automated emergency braking and pedestrian identification, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection are all included in the Tonale’s safety features.

Non-fungible tokens have been used in this PHEV.

The Tonale NFT, which Alfa Romeo claims is an industry first, certifies the automobile at purchase and then records and retains data throughout the car’s life cycle, according to Stellantis (previously Fiat Chrysler).

The NFT, according to the business, will record vehicle data and generate a certificate that can be used to verify that the vehicle has been properly maintained, resulting in a boost in its residual value.

As stated by the company, the use of blockchain technology makes it nearly impossible for an attacker to get their hands on the data or cheat the system.

What the makers have to say:

During a media briefing, Francesco Calcara, head of Alfa marketing and communication, stated-
“Digitalization is a critical component of our transformation. Tonale is the first car to have a non-fungible blockchain token. The same distributed information logic that protects your Bitcoin is used to protect NFTs “.He added that “It keeps track of everything on the blockchain.”

According to Larry Dominique, head of the company’s North American operations, the company expects to introduce five new vehicles ( or replacement vehicles) in the coming years, including the brand’s first all-battery electric vehicle (BEV) for North America in 2025.

He came forward with the company’s future plans by stating that by the year 2027, Alfa does not plan to sell ” any more internal combustion engine vehicles at all.”

The Tonale is Alfa Romeo’s fourth product since its return to the United States industry in 2014 after a nearly 20-year sabbatical. The brand plans to rise high in the market with the new Tonale.

This not only marks the progress of NFTs and blockchain technology in the physical world but getting rid of internal combustion engine vehicles is a welcome move for the environment.
