The Earliest NFTs

    Terra Nullius

With a mint date of August 7, 2015, Terra Nullius is the first NFT on the Ethereum network. This initiative appears to have been designed to allow you to stake your ‘claim’ on the blockchain, according to this Reddit post.

You were given the opportunity to add a short remark when you staked your claim, allowing you to personalize your NFT. This was an excellent concept, especially given the early stage of the NFT project.

    Ethereum v1.1 (Blockplots)

On October 29, 2015, Etheria v1.1, also known as Blockplots, was released. Blockplots was the first NFT with a transfer function on Ethereum. This NFT allowed you to own tiles on a map, although there were only 457 pieces available. The transfer function was a significant step forward in the development of the NFTs we know and love today.

    Ethereum Name Service

Following the ENS token drop in November 2021, Ethereum Names Service has garnered a lot of traction. On March 10, 2017, ENS was launched as a mechanism to purchase decentralized domain names. You can hold these decentralized domain names for a fixed period of time, similar to web2 domain names, although it’s more of a lease than genuine ownership. In any case, ENS appears to have a bright future.

    Curio Cards

Curio Cards is the first non-financial token (NFT) art initiative on the Ethereum network. Curio Cards is a set of 30 distinct art collector cards from seven different painters, with an original mint date of May 9, 2017. There are a total of 29,296 cards available, each with a varied amount of rarity and worth set by the market.

    CryptoPunks (original contract)

On June 9, 2017, the first CryptoPunks were released. A marketplace fault in the initial CryptoPunks contract resulted in punks being stolen. The OG Punks are still tradeable off-the-shelf, but they’re forbidden on OpenSea.

Larva Labs didn’t construct the uniquely generated 8-bit collectible characters that are now known as the OG NFT project until June 23, 2017. CryptoPunks, in fact, was the initiative that originated the 10k profile pic (pfp) fad, and it’s currently available on Larva Labs for over 65 ETH.

Larva Labs recently stated that they are developing an open-source, community-driven interface for buying and trading Punks on a decentralized, zero-fee market.

MoonCatResuce is an 8-bit NFT collectible NFT project that debuted on August 9, 2017, a few months after CryptoPunks. MoonCatRescue is the first cat NFT project on Ethereum, as well as the first generative art NFT project. MoonCatRescue, on the other hand, has nearly double the quantity of NFTs as Punks, with a total of 25,440 pieces.

The following NFT cat-wave, dubbed CryptoCats, didn’t take long to emerge. CryptoCats was born on the Ethereum blockchain on November 12, 2017, as a collectible 8-bit kitten. The NFT archaeology movement was sparked by the discovery of CryptoCats in March 2021. In comparison to past ventures, there are just 625 CryptoCats NFTs accessible right now.

Ethermon, an early NFT play-to-earn game, was released on December 16, 2017, allowing users to own, improve, use, and profit from their in-game digital assets. In 2019, the game’s most loyal players and an extended staff debuted the current improved version of Ethermon.

The goal of the game is to gather Ether Mons so that you can play an increasing number of p2e game variations. Ethermon offers a 2D RPG on their website as well as a full-fledged 3D MMORPG in Decentraland’s metaverse.
